In the wake of Vice President Kamala Harris's tenure as the "border czar" of the Biden administration, border patrol agents are voicing their discontent, with some even threatening to abandon their posts if Harris ascends to the presidency in the upcoming November election.
According to The Post Millennial, one agent expressed his frustration, stating, "Im not doing this sh*t again," and "Four more years of hell." The agent, who is not near retirement age, affirmed that he is "absolutely sure" he would leave if Harris emerges victorious in the November election.
Another agent echoed these sentiments, suggesting a potential mass exodus among the more seasoned agents. "Lots of guys who can retire will go. If Trump wins, theyll stay," the agent disclosed. He further predicted that those with a decade or more of experience would leverage their skills to secure other employment opportunities. "We will have another exodus just because we will have a bunch of 20-year agents saying peace out," another agent added.
A May report unveiled a concerning trend: since 2020, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has lost nearly a quarter of its agents. From October 2020 to April 2024, the agency saw 4,281 agents depart, including those who quit, were forced into retirement, or opted for early retirement.
Adding to the agency's woes is the alarming increase in suicide rates among CBP agents. In 2022 alone, 15 suicides were reported within the CBP ranks, leading the agency to hire a suicidologist to address the issue.
One agent criticized the current administration, saying, "Under this administration, theyve done everything they could to make our job as inefficient as possible. They cant outwardly tell us not to do our job, but when youre watching criminals come in and get released it sucks." The number of illegal immigrant encounters across the country under the Biden-Harris administration has reportedly surpassed 10 million, further fueling the agents' discontent.
