In a recent turn of events, Vem Miller, a 49-year-old Las Vegas resident, was apprehended outside a rally for former President Donald Trump.
Miller, who was found with firearms in his vehicle, has claimed close ties with the Trump family.
As reported by Newsweek, Miller was taken into custody on Saturday at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio, California. He was charged with possession of a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine. The arrest took place outside a Trump rally in Coachella Valley, California. Miller was also found driving an unregistered vehicle with a homemade license plate. Authorities discovered multiple passports and driver's licenses under different names in his possession. Following his arrest, Miller was released on a $5,000 bail and is set to appear at the Indio Larson Justice Center on January 2, 2025, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Department inmate database.
In a video posted on the social media platform Rumble, Miller refuted claims that he intended to harm the former president. He also denied allegations of possessing fraudulent press passes. Miller stated that he attended the rally on an invitation from the Nevada Republican Party. He said, "I drive up with my special entry passand by the way, they're saying I had a counterfeit pass that's a bunch of nonsenseI can prove that I had a special entry pass directed to me, sent directly to me by officials within the Republican Party of Nevada. I was an actual invitee to that event."
Miller also detailed his connections with the Trump family, stating, "I've talked to Don Jr., I've talked to Eric Trump. I know a lot of people within the Trump family and the extended family, and I have been integrally involved." He further claimed to have met the former president on multiple occasions and to have received around "20" special guest passes from the Trump campaign in the past.
Following Miller's arrest, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco suggested that the arrest may have prevented another assassination attempt. The former president has previously been targeted, with a gunman opening fire at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July, and an apparent assassination attempt at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September. Sheriff Bianco stated, "If you are asking me right now, I probably did have deputies that prevented the third assassination attempt."
Miller, however, has denied any intention of harming Trump. He told Fox News Digital that he was "100 percent a Trump supporter" and that he had never fired a gun in his life. He explained that he purchased firearms after receiving death threats due to his work in media.
Miller, who describes himself as an investigative journalist, documentary filmmaker, and content producer with over 20 years of experience, founded the America Happens Network in 2007. He hosts a podcast and has interviewed figures such as British MP Nigel Farage and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. Miller, a Republican, also ran for Nevada State Assembly, District 13 in the 2022 election cycle, as per a report from the Aurora Campaign Finance Disclosure from the Nevada Secretary of State.
