Fox News commentator Greg Gutfeld has sharply criticized Sunny Hostin's speculative theory that Melania Trump, the former First Lady, harbors a deep-seated resentment towards her husband, former President Donald Trump.
Hostin, a co-host on The View, suggested that Melania Trump's recent public support for abortion rights was a calculated move to undermine her husband.
The View's panelists were discussing Melania Trump's recent statement advocating for abortion rights to be "free from any intervention or pressure from the government." Hostin seized this opportunity to speculate on the state of the Trumps' marriage. She said, "I think she hates him so we can all agree on that. Thats a given. I also think that she wants to take him out. She does not want to be the first lady anymore. She destroyed the Rose Garden. Who hates Christmas? Melania Trump hates Christmas. She doesnt want to decorate for Christmas. She doesnt want to sleep in the same room as him. She cant tolerate him."
Gutfeld, in response, accused Hostin of projecting her own animosity towards Trump onto the former First Lady. According to Mediaite, Gutfeld said, "The View cant wait to tell us that Trumps marriage makes them jealous. Yeah, they may be overweight and brain dead, but they claim to know whats in Melanias head. This week the plus sized clown show known as The View discussed the news of Melania Trump coming out in favor of abortion rights just weeks before the election which led to this moment where Sunny projected her own misery on Melania."
Fellow panelist Kennedy concurred with Gutfeld, suggesting that Melania Trump's stance on abortion rights could potentially "soften" the right's position on this contentious issue just weeks before the election. She dismissed Hostin's theory as "garden variety projection."
As Hostin continued to speculate on the Trumps' marriage, co-host Whoopi Goldberg interjected with the word "allegedly," while others questioned the basis of Hostin's confidence in her theory. Gutfeld retorted, "How does she know all this? Its because shes talking about herself."
Gutfeld further argued that Melania Trump is in a no-win situation, as she would likely receive little support if she took a stance against abortion. He said, "When anybody tries to read your mind, they cant so have no choice but to pull the things out of their own head replace it. I find it interesting that theyre mocking Melania for disagreeing with her husband. Would they have applauded Melania if they thought exactly the same way?" This raises the question of whether the former First Lady can ever escape the shadow of her husband's political legacy.
