As the November election looms, Democrats appear to be reverting to their familiar tactics, calling for the online suppression of what they label as "misinformation."
A key figure spearheading this initiative is Democratic Representative Adam Schiff from California.
According to Gateway Pundit, Schiff recently published a press release on his website in which he "demanded answers" from social media platforms regarding their strategies "to address the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and potential incitement of violence on their platforms in the lead-up to the 2024 elections."
In a letter, which is accessible here, Schiff and seven other signatories expressed their apprehension about the ability of the social media companies to respond effectively and efficiently to misinformation, disinformation, or any potential incitement of violence on their platforms. This letter was addressed to the CEOs of Facebook, X, TikTok, Google, Microsoft, among others. Schiff also utilized X to reiterate the contents of the letter.
The letter and the post are filled with the typical leftist authoritarian rhetoric about "our democracy" and the aforementioned suppression of "misinformation." This process essentially boils down to silencing those who express dissenting opinions. The term "misinformation," if it ever had a different connotation, has been hijacked by the left to further their crusade against free speech.
Several X users have criticized Schiff's demands, highlighting their oppressive and tyrannical nature. "You want conservatives to be censored and its very obvious," one user commented. Another user pointed out Schiff's intention to have the American public accept the sanitized official narrative about the election propagated by mainstream media, rather than allowing them to discern the truth from a variety of perspectives.
This is not the first time Democratic politicians have employed such tactics. In August, PBS reported that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed the Biden administration pressured Facebook to censor specific information about COVID-19. Zuckerberg also stated that the FBI had warned him against allowing the New York Post's story about Hunter Biden's laptop to be shared on Facebook before the 2020 election.
Schiff and the Democrats seem to be resorting to their tried-and-true strategy. Despite the pandemic being largely behind us and President Joe Biden's influence waning, the stakes remain high for the upcoming November 5 election. Americans are eager to uncover the truth about issues such as illegal immigration, inflation, foreign wars, and the overall state of the nation. Schiff and the Democrats, however, seem to be doing everything they can to prevent this.
