In a shocking incident in Bridgeport, Connecticut, a man stands accused of brutally beating his six-year-old stepson to death with a metal bat.
The victim, Jathan Escobar, was rushed to the hospital with severe brain damage, where he was put on life support before being declared dead on Wednesday.
According to The Blaze, the boy's stepfather, 38-year-old Abdulrahim Sulaiman, has been arrested and charged with murder under special circumstances. The mother of the child, Sulaiman's 33-year-old wife, reported to the police that they had only been married for a few months and she had known him for about a year. She alleged that Sulaiman had recently been using the hallucinogenic drug PCP and had become violent.
The horrific attack on the family occurred on September 25, when Sulaiman allegedly assaulted his wife and her children with a metal bat. The mother's desperate cries for help echoed from their Main Street apartment. Upon arrival, the police administered CPR to the young boy, but the severity of his head injury was such that brain matter was visible.
Sulaiman's criminal history is not without blemish. The police revealed that he was on probation and had a record of violent offenses. Following the tragic death of the child, his bond was raised from $1 million to a staggering $10 million.
The victim's cousin, Sasha Heron, remembered the young boy fondly. "He was always so happy and he just enjoyed life altogether. No matter what was going on, he was always so happy with everybody," she said. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of drug abuse and domestic violence, issues that society must continue to confront head-on.
