Ohio Senator JD Vance, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, took to the debate stage on Tuesday, where he criticized the Biden-Harris administration's foreign policy approach and lauded Trump's track record.
His opponent, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, had previously attributed the escalating tensions in the Middle East to Trump's presidency, rather than the current administration's actions.
According to The Post Millennial, Vance was questioned about the Trump administration's strategy for the Middle East, following Iran's recent rocket attacks on Israel. The query came in the wake of the Biden-Harris administration's decision to deploy additional US troops to the region.
In response, Vance retorted, "Governor Waltz, you blame Donald Trump. Who has been the vice president for the last three and a half years? And the answer is, your running mate, not mine. Donald Trump consistently made the world more secure." He further emphasized the stability Trump brought to the global stage, stating, "It was during the administration of Kamala Harris, so Governor Waltz can criticize Donald Trump's tweets, but effective, smart diplomacy and peace through strength is how you bring stability back to a very broken world. Donald Trump has already done it once before."
Vance, the GOP vice-presidential candidate, underscored Trump's use of deterrence and "peace through strength" as effective strategies to prevent adversarial nations from attacking US allies. He also challenged the audience to recall a time when an American president did not face a major conflict, asserting that the only period of peace was during Trump's four-year term.
Governor Walz, on the other hand, attributed the failures of foreign policy under the Biden-Harris administration, such as Iran's increasing aggression, to Trump's presidency. He argued that Trump's diplomacy was largely confined to his Twitter activity during his time in office. However, Vance's remarks underscore the conservative viewpoint that Trump's approach to foreign policy was more effective in maintaining global stability.
