In a quiet suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, a Muslim immigrant was apprehended by the FBI on Monday, accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot against his wife and six adult children.
The man, identified as 61-year-old Mohammed A.H. Mohammed, allegedly sought to eliminate his family, claiming that they had "destroyed his pride and dignity."
According to AL.com, the dispute stemmed from ongoing domestic violence charges, with Mohammed fearing imminent arrest and expulsion from the family home. He reportedly told authorities, "God will reward me" for having his family killed. The accused offered an undercover FBI agent $20,000 to murder his 55-year-old wife, Sana, and an additional $5,000 for each of his six children, aged between 21 and 34. A down payment of $550 was made to the agent for the hitman service, with the balance to be settled upon completion of the murder.
"I need this shit done," Mohammed allegedly told the undercover FBI agent. Federal authorities have charged him with the use of interstate commerce in the commission of murder for hire, under 18 U.S.C. 1958. State authorities have several other cases pending against him.
Mohammed's criminal record includes a litany of state charges for domestic violence and stalking. He has also been accused of repeatedly setting fire to his family's vehicles. His wife previously alleged that he had planned to lock his family in the basement and murder them.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, an affidavit from the FBI reveals that Mohammed admitted to setting fire to the family's vehicles as a form of protest against their behavior. Prior to this admission, law enforcement could only label the vehicle fires as "suspicious." The duration of Mohammed's stay in the country remains unknown to the FBI and other authorities.
Mohammed is the owner of a plumbing business, "American Plumbing Service LLC," located in Homewood, a posh suburb of Birmingham. Despite undergoing a contentious divorce for several years, he and his wife have continued to cohabit the same property.
A video posted on the NextDoor app showed a woman walking through a wooded backyard, questioning the ongoing situation as the FBI negotiated Mohammed's surrender. Amid the backdrop of sirens, an FBI agent demanded Mohammed to come to the door, asserting they had a warrant for his arrest. The agent pleaded with Mohammed to come out, assuring him that they could see him inside the house.
In 2003, Mohammed was involved in a civil litigation case stemming from a 1999 traffic accident. He was rear-ended by a food delivery driver, received a settlement, and then proceeded to sue for additional compensation.
The incident occurred near the BIS Hoover Crescent Islamic Center, the only mosque in Hoover. Another mosque is located in Birmingham. Locals have reported other unusual incidents in the area, including a man jumping into a woman's car and demanding to know her stance on Israel and Palestine.
Birmingham, with a population of 1.1 million, is the largest metropolitan area in Alabama, a state with approximately 5 million residents. The state is predominantly Protestant, with only 1% of the population identifying as Muslim, equating to roughly 23,550 individuals. Nationwide, Muslims make up about 1% of the U.S. population, totaling approximately 3.5 million people.
The arrest of Mohammed serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in maintaining public safety. It also underscores the importance of vigilance within communities, particularly in the face of potential domestic violence and threats to life.
