In a recent development, Florida Judge Aileen Cannon, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, is set to preside over the trial of Ryan Routh.
Routh stands accused of an attempted assassination plot against Trump.
This comes after Judge Cannon oversaw the Biden-Harris Department of Justice's prosecution of Trump in a case involving classified documents.
According to The Post Millennial, Routh is alleged to have staked out near Trump International Golf Course for a duration of 12 hours, hoping to get a chance to assassinate the former president. Upon his discovery by the Secret Service, he reportedly fired shots and fled the scene, leaving behind a long rifle and a scope. A vigilant citizen managed to capture a photograph of Routh's license plate as he made his escape, enabling local law enforcement to shut down the highway and initiate a manhunt that eventually led to his capture.
This incident, which occurred on September 15, marked the second assassination attempt on Trump within a span of two months, with the first attempt taking place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. Routh now faces charges of attempted assassination and two federal gun charges. As a convicted felon, Routh was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Routh's past is marked by multiple arrests and recent efforts to recruit foreign fighters to combat Russia in Ukraine. Upon his return to the U.S., he was flagged, but the Biden-Harris Department of Homeland Security opted not to investigate.
Attorney General Merrick Garland expressed his relief over Trump's safety and condemned the assassination attempt. "The attempted assassination on the former president is a heinous act," Garland stated at a news conference, as reported by CNN. "I am grateful that he is safe, and as I said immediately after the event, the Justice Department will spare no resource to ensure accountability."
Judge Cannon recently dismissed the Biden-Harris DOJ's case against Trump concerning classified documents. The DOJ had sanctioned an FBI raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, suspecting him of possessing classified documents that should have been returned to the National Archives upon his departure from office. The case revealed that the FBI had manipulated evidence to photograph a collection of documents to strengthen their case against Trump.
