In a recent revelation, it has been disclosed that Olivia Nuzzi, a prominent journalist, had a romantic relationship with former MSNBC and ESPN star Keith Olbermann, a decade before her alleged 'emotional and digital' affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Olbermann confirmed their past relationship on social media, stating, "We didn't do much to keep it quiet. I just assumed nobody cared. Certainly, it has nothing to do with the RFK stuff. I also assumed it had been covered online somewhere."
According to the Daily Mail, Olbermann, who was 55 at the time, and Nuzzi, then 21, had a relationship that the former SportsCenter anchor described as "pretty boring," "really nice," and "wholesome." He further revealed that Nuzzi was with him when he adopted his first dog, a cause he now regularly promotes on Twitter. "In fact, it was she with whom I got my first dog and for that, I'll always be grateful to her," Olbermann said.
The former Countdown star went into more detail about their relationship on his podcast, revealing that they lived together. "We had dogs, and tattoos and rings, and like all relationships, it was very nice at the start, then things happened, we worked on it and it ended," he said. "One day I said 'I think we've exhausted this', I changed my mind, then like the next day she left, so I guess that makes it a tie," he added.
Olbermann also mentioned that Nuzzi had a clothes closet in his apartment but decided not to volunteer more information about their relationship when the story initially broke. He explained the difficulty of maintaining privacy as a public figure, stating, "It's difficult to be even the most marginal public figure and keep any part of your life private."
The former ESPN star described their relationship as "surprisingly mundane" and unrelated to the RFK story except "in the broadest possible sense." He acknowledged that Nuzzi "did some weird things during the three, three-and-a-half years this lasted" but added, "I'm sure I did too."
He further revealed that Nuzzi's mother would dog-sit for them, and he often had coffee with her father. However, he noted that Nuzzi would often "miss the mark on the consequences of her actions that nobody around her would have said anything except 'how could you not know that?'"
Olbermann also commented on Nuzzi's alleged affair with RFK Jr., stating that nothing he knew about her then or now suggests "Olivia would have kept sending a guy nude photos unless he wanted them." He clarified that he and Nuzzi have not spoken since their breakup and that he cannot defend any of her journalistic choices.
Despite their past, Olbermann recalled a heart-warming moment when Nuzzi took care of him the day he got his "beloved" dog Stevie. "And Olivia largely taught me how to successfully be adopted by a dog and all dogs, and the anniversary of that is next Monday," he said. He concluded by crediting all his work with animals and dogs to Nuzzi and assured her of his support if she ever needed it.
Meanwhile, the New York Post reached out to Olbermann for comment about the affair, and he reiterated that he had not spoken to Nuzzi in a decade. He assumed everyone already knew about their past relationship, stating, "That's online. It's public knowledge, I keep my personal relationships close to the vest."
The revelation of Nuzzi's past relationship with Olbermann comes amid her alleged affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Nuzzi, who was interning with now-disgraced New York Congressman Anthony Weiner at the time of her relationship with Olbermann, is currently on leave due to her alleged tryst with Kennedy.
Olbermann, who has previously dated Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Fox News host Laura Ingraham, and MSNBC star Katy Tur, criticized both Nuzzi and RFK Jr. on social media when news of their affair broke. He described Kennedy's attempts to investigate Nuzzi as reprehensible and condemned his actions, stating, "This psychopath and serial woman chaser @RobertKennedyJr is talking about having @Olivianuzzi ARRESTED? I excuse none of her conduct but the dynamic just changed here."
The former ESPN star further criticized Kennedy, stating, "F*** him. He's an utterly irresponsible pile of s***. You participate in these sexts and they become a problem, you call her boss. Faster than 10 months later." He suggested that the scandal has now evolved from dealing with Nuzzi's actions to figuring out "how RFK Jr. needs to be controlled and punished."
Kennedy, who is reportedly considering suing Nuzzi over the explicit content she allegedly sent to him, recently appeared at an event on Capitol Hill and posed for photos with prominent Republican lawmakers. GOP Rep. Thomas Massie, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Rep. Chip Roy all shared snaps with Kennedy, while Sen. Ron Johnson had him appear on a panel discussion entitled: "American Health and Nutrition: A Second Opinion."
Jessica Read Kraus, who writes the popular House Inhabit Substack, reported that Kennedy is exploring his legal options after Nuzzi allegedly "bombarded him with increasingly pornographic photos and videos." Kraus suggested that Nuzzi was trying to "set him up," stating, "There was an undercurrent of fascination that went beyond journalistic intrigue, bordering on obsession."
Security expert Gavin de Becker is investigating the situation to see if Kennedy can file a civil suit against Nuzzi. "This has nothing to do with romance," de Becker told Kraus. "He was being chased by porn."
Nuzzi's editor-in-chief David Haskell confronted her about the affair, and after initially denying the relationship, she allegedly came clean. Her engagement to Politico reporter Ryan Lizza has since been called off. Kennedy, who remains married to Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines, denied ever meeting Nuzzi, aside from an interview for a profile piece.
Haskell put Nuzzi on leave, with his magazine issuing a statement acknowledging the situation. The statement read: "Recently our Washington Correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazine's editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign." The magazine is currently conducting a third-party review of the situation.
