Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has leveled serious accusations against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), claiming that the agency is obstructing a state-led investigation into the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
According to Gateway Pundit, DeSantis made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, where he declared that the state of Florida would spearhead its own investigation. He expressed his lack of faith in federal agencies, citing their ongoing efforts to prosecute Trump as a reason for their inability to impartially investigate threats against the former president.
DeSantis argued that these federal agencies have no business leading an investigation where the most severe violations fall under state law, not federal law. He stated, Today, Im signing an Executive Order assigning the case involving the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump to the office of statewide prosecutor under the supervision of Attorney General Ashley Moody.
He further elaborated on the suspect, Ryan Routh, who is believed to have committed state law violations across multiple judicial circuits in Florida. DeSantis emphasized that the state of Florida has jurisdiction over the most serious offense, which is attempted murder. He urged state agencies to act swiftly and maintain full transparency for the public.
In an appearance on Fox News The Ingraham Angle, DeSantis reiterated his accusations, revealing that state investigators were being denied access to the crime scene. He expressed his belief that the FBI does not want the state of Florida to have any involvement in the investigation.
During the interview, Laura Ingraham asked DeSantis about the cooperation of federal agencies with the state-led investigation. DeSantis responded, The answer is no, theyre not being cooperative. Yes, I am concerned. For example, our investigators were rebuffed just going to the fence line outside of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. I think theyve taken the position that they dont want the state of Florida to be involved in this.
DeSantis expressed his disappointment with the lack of cooperation from federal agencies, despite his clear stance that Florida would conduct its own investigation. He emphasized that while he respects the federal government's right to investigate, the state should also be allowed to conduct its own inquiry.
Ingraham also questioned the FBIs quick dismissal of the attackers motives as a lone wolf scenario. DeSantis agreed with her, stating that the public does not trust these immediate conclusions from the federal agencies. He stressed the need to preserve all evidence.
Ingraham, reflecting the concerns of many Americans, questioned the FBI's haste in shutting down lines of inquiry in both this and the previous assassination attempt. DeSantis responded, Yeah, I dont think the public has confidence when that is being done. As soon as we got word of this on Sunday, I told our guys in state law enforcement, Save all his social media because you know Facebook will delete it."
DeSantis emphasized the importance of preserving the suspect's digital trail to understand his motives and associations. He expressed frustration over the lack of answers about previous incidents, such as the Las Vegas shooting, and stressed the importance of the public getting the real story.
Ingraham concluded the interview by expressing her gratitude to the governor for conducting an independent investigation, stating, "Yeah, well, the FBI has shredded its own credibility. Our governor, thank goodness youre doing an investigation. I was so happy to hear that."
