Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly contemplating a political comeback, eyeing the mayoral seat of New York City.
This news comes as the current Mayor, Eric Adams, is under increasing scrutiny due to ongoing investigations into his campaign.
As reported by The Post Millennial, insiders suggest that Cuomo's allies are disseminating this information. A notable banking CEO is said to have informed affluent contributors about Cuomo's intention to initiate a campaign next year. "His agents are spreading the word. Theyre spreading the word that Cuomo is running," an anonymous source disclosed.
This potential political move unfolds as Adams' administration is embroiled in a decline in popularity and federal corruption investigations. These probes have already resulted in the stepping down of NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban and Adams' chief legal advisor, Lisa Zornberg.
Cuomo stepped down from his governorship in August 2021 following numerous accusations of sexual misconduct, which he refuted. His term was also marred by controversy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, especially concerning his administration's decision to house recuperating COVID-19 patients in nursing homes.
Nevertheless, despite these scandals, Cuomo reportedly paid a polling firm $68,000 earlier this year to measure his popularity, suggesting a potential return to the political arena. "Cuomo still maintains a massive well of support from New York City and New York City voters despite how the administration ended," Melissa DeRosa, a former top aide to Cuomo, stated in a recent interview with Forbes.
As the next election approaches, several Democratic political figures are preparing to contest Mayor Adams. Among these are state Senators Jessica Ramos and Zellnor Myrie, city Comptroller Brad Lander, and former Comptroller Scott Stringer, according to the New York Post.
