A handyman took a brave and bold step to reclaim his mothers home from squatters who tried to take it over.
Fox News reports that the man is from Northern California and was distraught by what squatters had done to his mothers home. Flash Shelton of the United Handyman Association said the following in a video on YouTube about the situation:.
If they could take a house, I could take it. He then continued by saying:
Theyre the squatter, and they have rights. Well, if I become the squatter on the squatter, I should have rights, right?
These videos generated more than two million views for the fed-up handyman from Northern California.
Shelton explained that his father had recently passed away, and his mother couldnt live alone. Therefore, she put the house up for rent. Fox News reports that a woman who claimed she was a security guard offered to rent the house but didnt put up any money or credit, so Shelton turned her down for it. However, he then learned that a truckload of furniture and other belongings had been delivered to the house, which made him highly concerned.
She said that it was delivered by accident, and she was getting rid of it, said Shelton.
However, the handyman began to hear rumors from realtors that the house was full of furniture and people living there. Shelton called the police, but the answers that he got from them could have been more helpful. Sadly, it takes work to fight against squatters in many cases.
Shelton said the police told him: They said, You know, Im sorry, but we cant enter the house, and it looks like theyre living there. So you need to go through the courts.
Many homeowners are fighting costly battles in court to remove settlers from their properties, and there is no way of seeing any light at the end of this tunnel. Many feel these individuals are overrunning them and are understandably upset by the turn of events. They dont know how to protect their rights and homes from those who want to exploit lax squatter laws in many areas of the country. It is a problem that doesnt have any easy-to-see resolution at any point shortly. It is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
