In an exclusive development, America First Legal (AFL) has launched a lawsuit against the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The conservative legal group is seeking access to records of any communication between Bragg's office and the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Convention, and other entities, in relation to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
According to Fox News, the lawsuit was filed by AFL on Monday morning. The organization is not only seeking documents and communication between Bragg's office and the aforementioned parties, but also records related to fundraising efforts tied to the New York v. Trump case. The group is also probing for any existing records of communication between Bragg's office and Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan and operator of Democrat-affiliated political consulting firm, Authentic Campaigns.
AFL Vice President Dan Epstein voiced his concerns, stating, "It is incumbent for Alvin Braggs office to meet its transparency responsibilities. The public record now reveals a direct contradiction between statements from the U.S. Department of Justice and Braggs own office about coordination between the two." Epstein further expressed suspicions about potential covert coordination between Washington, D.C., and New York City, involving groups like Color of Change.
AFL has described Color of Change as a far-left, Soros-funded group, which has reportedly visited the White House 16 times and met with both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The group has publicly characterized the prosecution of Trump as the "fruit of our labor."
This lawsuit forms part of AFL's ongoing investigation into Bragg's office, which is centered around concerns of impartiality, politically motivated prosecution, and the potential weaponization of the justice system. Last week, AFL sued Judge Merchan for refusing to disclose his financial records amidst questions about his daughters work at Authentic Campaigns. The CEO of Authentic Campaigns has dismissed the allegations against the company as "completely false and purely politically motivated."
Under New York law, judges are required to file annual financial disclosures, which should be made available upon request. Former President Trump, who was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree after a six-week trial, has moved to appeal the verdict. Judge Merchan has granted Trumps request to delay sentencing until after the presidential election, with the sentencing now scheduled for November 26.
