Former President Donald Trump broke his silence on Monday night, addressing the public for the first time since a second assassination attempt on his life was foiled on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred while Trump was participating in a pre-scheduled X Spaces discussion on cryptocurrency. During the conversation, he touched on the assassination attempt, the suspect, the political rhetoric surrounding him, and the removal of President Joe Biden from the Democratic presidential ticket.
According to The Post Millennial, Trump provided a detailed account of the events that unfolded on Sunday afternoon. "They have the man behind bars, and hopefully he's going to be there for a long time," he stated, describing the suspect as a "dangerous person, very, very dangerous person." Trump was playing golf with friends when the incident occurred. "Everything was beautiful," he recalled, "it was a nice place to be. And all of a sudden we heard shots being fired in the air, and I guess probably four or five, and it sounded like bullets."
This was the second attempt on Trump's life this summer, the first occurring in Butler, PA on July 13. The former president praised the Secret Service agents who were on duty that day, stating, "they did a fantastic job." He recounted how the agents quickly got him and his friends off the golf course after recognizing the sound of gunfire. "I would have loved to have sank that last putt," he said, "but we decided, 'let's get out of here.'"
Trump further explained that a Secret Service agent had spotted the barrel of an AK-47 and began firing towards it. "The other one never got a shot off," he said, "and he ran across the street and grabbed his car, hopped into his truck or car, and amazingly, a civilian in that area saw something, and it looked very suspicious, and in the car, drove their car to the back of his truck of some kind, and took pictures of the license plate, gave them to the sheriff's office."
When asked about the implications of a second attempt on his life in under two months, Trump pointed to the political rhetoric. "There's a lot of rhetoric going on. A lot of people think that the Democrats, when they talk about threat to democracy and all of this, and it seems that both of these people were radical leftists," he said.
Trump also revealed that he had a conversation with President Joe Biden on Monday about the assassination attempt. He expressed his belief that Biden was "treated very unfairly" by his own party and that Vice President Kamala Harris "is far worse than Biden." He described the removal of Biden from the Democratic ticket as an "overthrow of a President," and a "coup in the truest sense."
Trump concluded by emphasizing the importance of preserving the country's values. "We have to save our country. We can't play games, or we can't have a Marxist communist president, because that's not what it's all about," he said. This statement underscores the conservative perspective that prioritizes traditional values, limited government, individual freedom, and free-market economics.
