Four children were found dead within one hour in and around the Phoenix area on Sunday morning.
Fox 10 reports that three children were found dead in separate incidents throughout the city. The police department also reports that a baby was found dead in Chandler.
In each case, the child was found not breathing. These all occurred on March 19. The locations of the incidents were identified as follows: Ocotillo and Gilbert roads, Chandler - 5 AM. 55th Avenue and McDowell Road - 5:30 AM. 29th Street and Virginia Avenue - 5:30 AM. 24th Street and Broadway Road - 6:30 AM.
In the Broadway case, the baby victim was rushed to the hospital, where that child was reported dead. Some other children involved in these cases also died after being taken to the hospital. However, at least one of the children found dead was pronounced dead on the scene.
Sgt. Robert Scherer with Phoenix PD said that there are investigations in the early stage in each of these cases but that it is not suspected that anything suspicious occurred in these situations. It is believed to be of natural causes and reasons in each case. That may seem odd to many people, but it has occurred in these cases and is worth noting.
Scherer said: Ruling foul play out completely wouldnt be the right thing at this time, and However I can tell you that neither of these cases have elements that would be suspicious to investigators.
The medical examiners office reviews each case to see what can be determined by each. It is exciting to many people, and it seems there might be many things worth looking into with these cases. It is unusual to have this many children passing away quickly and in the same geographic area.
Det. Eva Zermeo spoke about the 5-month baby that passed away in these incidents today. She said:
As in any death investigation, we dont determine the cause of death. Our detectives investigated to see if there was anything criminal that we dont appear there was at this time. The medical examiners office determines the cause of death.
This certainly has the local area rattled, but this also appears to have happened naturally. Therefore, there is no reason to suspect that anything more serious is happening now.
