In a chilling revelation, Swiss officials have disclosed the gruesome murder of a former Miss Switzerland finalist, Kristina Joksimovic.
The 38-year-old beauty queen was brutally strangled and dismembered by her husband, who then proceeded to blend her remains, a crime that has sent shockwaves across the nation.
According to The New York Post, Joksimovic was found dead in her home in Binningen, near Basel, Switzerland, in February. Her 41-year-old husband, identified only as Thomas in local media, was arrested and remains in custody, despite his appeal for release. His plea was denied by the country's federal court in Lausanne, following his confession to the murder.
The court's ruling shed light on the horrifying details of the murder and indicated that the ongoing investigation has unearthed "concrete indications of a mental illness" in the case. The discovery of Joksimovic's mutilated body on the night of February 13th has since led to a nationwide outcry.
Thomas, the father of their two daughters, confessed to the murder in March, claiming self-defense after alleging that Joksimovic had attacked him with a knife. However, medical experts found no evidence to support his claim, identifying strangulation as the cause of death.
The autopsy report, obtained by Swiss outlet BZ Basel, revealed the horrific extent of the crime. Joksimovic's body was dismembered using a jigsaw, knife, and garden shears. Several body parts were then chopped up with a hand blender, "pureed," and dissolved in a chemical solution.
Thomas was arrested the day after her body was discovered. Initially, he told investigators that he had found her dead and dismembered her body in their laundry room in a state of panic. However, prosecutors highlighted his "noticeably high level of criminal energy, lack of empathy, and cold-bloodedness" in attempting to cover up his crime.
Further investigations revealed a history of violence, with prosecutors disclosing that Thomas had previously choked his wife. A former partner also alleged that he had once grabbed Joksimovic by the neck and slammed her head into a wall.
Joksimovic, crowned Miss Northwest Switzerland, was a finalist for Miss Switzerland in 2007. She later established her own business as a catwalk coach and mentored model Dominique Rinderknecht for the Miss Universe pageant in 2013. Her death has left the Swiss community in shock, with former Miss Switzerland Christa Rigozzi expressing her disbelief. "I'm thinking of her two daughters. She was such a beautiful and kind-hearted woman," Rigozzi said.
The couple, who lived in a large home overlooking Basel, portrayed a picture-perfect family on social media. Just weeks before Joksimovic's death, an Instagram post showed the couple on a "couple's getaway" on Lake Lucerne, a stark contrast to the horrifying reality that unfolded.
