In a recent, unyielding critique of House Speaker Mike Johnson, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) criticized what she perceives as a contrived conflict initiated by the GOP leadership in the nation's capital.
According to Gateway Pundit, Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, has integrated components of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act into the House's imminent continuing resolution. This legislation must be approved by September 30 to avert a government shutdown. This strategic move was prompted by the encouragement of former President Donald Trump.
Greene voiced her disapproval of the proceedings surrounding the continuing resolution and the SAVE Act, which was ratified by the House earlier this year. She alleged that Johnson is colluding with Democrats and manipulating the budget negotiations to mislead the Republican base. "I think the American people on both sides of the aisle are sick and tired of lying in Washington, D.C. Why set up a fake fight?" Greene questioned.
Greene's criticism was particularly directed at the continuing resolution, which she asserts perpetuates the funding of President Biden's Green New Deal and other progressive policies. "We passed the Save Act," she stated, referencing the bill approved by the House in July. "I think it was on July 10th. We passed it. The House has passed it. For everyone to stand in there and say that we have to vote for this, but in order to vote for it, you have to vote for a continuing resolution that continues the Biden administrations budget, that pays for the Green New Deal, that pays for all these horrific things that people are sick of. It is absurd. Its absurd. Its going to frustrate people because the Republican base will know that theyre being lied to, and theyre tired of being lied to.
Her message was unequivocal: Republicans, under Speaker Johnson's leadership, are ensnaring themselves in a trap that could estrange their own voters by feigning resistance while capitulating to Democrat demands. With the midterm elections looming, she warned that manufacturing a "fake fight" could result in severe repercussions. "The worst thing that Republicans in the House can do is create a fake fight that the base knows theyre lying about and frustrate our voters going in on November fifth," Greene warned. "Thats how you lose the House of Representatives.
She also reproached Johnson for his previous alliances with Democrats in negotiations, urging him to "just be honest" with the American people and President Trump about his true intentions. Greene declared that she would not partake in any pretense that misleads her conservative base. "Just be honest. If hes already aligned himself with the Democrats back in May, did a two-part omnibus, just be honest and do what hes going to do. But dont have Conservatives like me, that actually care about reducing our spending, that actually care about making changes, that actually care about doing the right thing for the American people, dont make people like me go out and pretend like were fighting for something, because Im not going to have any part of it.
Greene's message to Speaker Johnson and Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) is unambiguous: cease the pretense of advocating for conservative principles and begin delivering results.
