Host Trump, Face The Consequences: How One Restaurant Owner Is Fighting Back Against Boycott Calls

In a society that truly values freedom, certain fundamental human rights are indispensable, among which is the freedom of expression, particularly in the realm of politics.

This freedom can manifest in various forms, such as a restaurateur hosting a political candidate at his establishment. This was precisely the case in Las Vegas, where Javier Barajas welcomed former President Donald Trump to his restaurant, "II Toro e La Capra," for a "No Taxes on Tips" event. Despite facing threats of boycotts due to this political gesture, Barajas remains steadfast in his convictions.

According to RedState, the Las Vegas restaurant owner has been subjected to calls for boycotts since he hosted the former president's press conference on his "No Taxes on Tips" policy. However, Barajas has no intention of succumbing to the pressure. "I was so grateful to have President Donald Trump in my restaurant. [But] I've been having a lot of phone calls, a lot of TikToks that people make, talking bad about me and my restaurant, but, at the same time, I've been having a lot of good response, too," Barajas shared on "Fox & Friends First."

Barajas, who owns the Mexican-Italian restaurant II Toro e La Capra, was the venue for Trump's televised message on his "No Taxes on Tips" policy last month. A local outlet reported that Barajas spoke highly of Trump and his proposal at the time, and he reiterated his support on Thursday, expressing his endorsement of the GOP candidate's immigration policies and his belief that Trump will do more to support the working class.

While the potential boycotters are also expressing a political opinion, which is a part of free speech, it is commendable to see Barajas standing firm on his principles. The issue at hand is not about personalities but principles.

Although it would be somewhat surprising if an effective boycott were to occur in this casegiven that hosting Trump in Nevada could potentially attract as much business for Barajas as it might cost hima boycott could prove to be highly effective if it gains momentum, as the Bud Light brand discovered to its detriment. Furthermore, a boycott could pave the way for increased competition, which ultimately benefits consumers.

Freedom of speech and expression is not only a wonderful privilege but also vital to the functioning of a republic like ours. Therefore, campaigns against "disinformation" must be resisted at all costs, as the outcome could lead to a government body determining what constitutes "disinformation," a path that could lead us down a perilous road.

In the meantime, Barajas deserves recognition for standing his ground. If you find yourself in the Las Vegas area, consider visiting his restaurant.
