In a recent campaign event in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, reportedly denied the press the opportunity to ask questions.
This incident was brought to light by a local journalist, Alyssa Kratz of WPMT FOX43, who was present at the event.
According to Fox News, the event took place at the Lancaster County Democratic Committee field office, where Walz, accompanied by his daughter, interacted with volunteers. However, Kratz revealed in a Facebook post that the press was not allowed to engage with the governor. "Gov. Tim Walz speaking to people calling into Lancaster County Democratic Committee field office. His daughter Hope is with him. Spoke to supporters here for about 6 or 7 minutes. Walz is not taking questions from the media while here. We were also not allowed to put microphones up by Gov. Walz while he was speaking," she wrote.
Kratz further detailed an instance where a reporter attempted to ask a question but was instructed not to disrupt the program. This restriction on media interaction was later confirmed by FOX43 to Fox News Digital. "We asked as a group (the press) multiple times if Gov. Walz could speak by the podium and we could put our microphones on the podium and we were denied," Kratz told Fox News Digital. She added, "A reporter from the local NBC affiliate (WGAL) shouted out a question after Gov. Walz was finished speaking to volunteers and we were told by the campaign to not disturb the interactions between Gov. Walz and the volunteers."
The Harris campaign, when contacted by Fox News Digital for a comment, did not respond. This incident adds to the growing concerns about the lack of press access to both Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris since the inception of Harris' presidential campaign in July. Their first official interview, more than six weeks into the campaign, was a pre-taped segment with CNNs Dana Bash.
The interview drew criticism from commentators who questioned why the Vice President couldnt conduct her first major interview without Walz. Furthermore, Harris has yet to hold a formal press conference, raising questions about the campaign's commitment to transparency and open communication.
