In a recent move, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has launched a Labor Day billboard campaign, branding President Donald Trump as an "anti-union scab."
This label harks back to a significant union leader's address at the Democratic National Convention last month.
As reported by The Independent, the DNC is set to run 19 digital billboards in the pivotal swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania on Labor Day. The billboards, designed to be bilingual in English and Spanish, will showcase an image of Trump with the caption, "Trump's an anti-union scab!"
This campaign pays tribute to Shawn Fain, the President of the United Autoworkers Union, who made an appearance at the DNC in Chicago, Illinois last month. Fain, during his speech, donned a shirt that boldly stated, "Trump is a scab. Vote Harris."
"We were really kind of channeling Shawn Fain with that choice," Brad Woodhouse, a senior adviser to the DNC, told HuffPost. The placement of these billboards has been strategically planned, considering the potential route of a Trump motorcade, which could attract crowds near the billboards, and the volume of traffic in these areas, Woodhouse explained.
The Independent reached out to the Trump campaign for a response but received no comment.
In a related development last week, The Independent exclusively reported that Democrats in Michigan and Wisconsin have also erected billboards highlighting the potential financial burden on Americans if Trump is re-elected for a second term. The billboards, in English and Spanish, warned that "Donald Trump's Project 2025" could "raise taxes on middle-class families by $3,900".
Project 2025 is a comprehensive 900-page document crafted by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. It outlines a blueprint for Trump's potential second term, proposing a significant overhaul of the government. This includes replacing thousands of bureaucrats with Trump loyalists, curtailing civil rights for LGBTQ+ individuals, dismantling access to reproductive healthcare, and slashing key federal agencies.
Despite Trump's attempts to distance himself from the project and deny any involvement, at least 140 individuals who worked for Trump were part of Project 2025, as reported by CNN earlier this summer.
With less than ten weeks to go until Election Day on November 5, these billboard campaigns are heating up the political landscape. Current national polls indicate that Vice-President Kamala Harris holds a 3.2-point lead over Trump, with a growing lead in six major swing states, including those featuring the new Labor Day billboards.
