Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State, was forced to miss a high-profile Hamptons fundraiser for Kamala Harris due to a COVID-19 infection.
The event, which had tickets priced at a staggering $100,000 each, saw her husband, former President Bill Clinton, stepping in on her behalf.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, Clinton's illness came on the heels of her attendance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago. The convention, the largest in-person gathering of the Democratic party since 2016, has been labeled a COVID superspreader event, despite the vaccination status of the attendees.
Page Six provided the details of Clinton's absence, stating, "Hillary Clinton bowed out of a Hamptons fundraiser for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on Monday, we hear, after the former secretary of state came down with COVID-19." The report further added that Bill Clinton filled in for his wife at the event, which was held at the residence of renowned art collectors Lisa and Richard Perry.
The fundraiser, hosted by the Perrys, who are known for their collection of works by artists such as Frank Stella, Alexander Calder, Ellsworth Kelly, and Donald Judd, was touted as a must-attend event. An invitation seen by Page Six noted, "This is likely to be one of the last small events in the NY area before the election, so it is not to be missed."
The incident underscores the ongoing threat of COVID-19, even among the vaccinated and elite. It also raises questions about the wisdom of holding large in-person events in the current health climate, particularly when they turn into superspreader events, as was the case with the DNC Convention.
