The Wolcott Hotel, a once bustling tourist destination in Manhattan, has recently been transformed into a migrant mega-shelter, with military personnel reportedly stationed outside the establishment at the behest of state officials.
This surprising development was captured on video by citizen journalist Crowd the Source on Tuesday, sparking a flurry of questions and concerns.
According to the Gateway Pundit, the hotel, located on West 31st Street in New York City, had ceased operations for regular guests indefinitely since 2023. This decision was driven by the ongoing migrant crisis and the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 Delta variant. The hotel's website confirmed this, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that the Wolcott Hotel will be closed to transient hotel guests indefinitely. With the current Delta variant and uncertainty when travel will return, I feel this is the best course of action for the hotel and her employees for the near future."
The video footage captured by Crowd the Source showed uniformed military personnel stationed outside the Wolcott Hotel. The citizen journalist can be heard questioning the military's presence at a civilian hotel, asking, "Is the army turning this thing into a migrant shelter? Why are you guys here? Its a hotel. Why is the army at this hotel?" In response, one of the soldiers stated, "Were here at the request of the State of New York."
This revelation sparked a wave of concern among Crowd the Source and his followers. The journalist continued to press the issue, asking, "State of New York has put the army into hotels? What the hell is that about? This is a public hotel, right? What is the Army doing in this hotel? Have you guys taken over this hotel? What is it. What the hell on army doing taking over civilian hotels in the middle of New York City?"
Despite being confronted by a hotel staff member who insisted he stop recording, Crowd the Source remained undeterred, voicing his concerns directly to his audience. "I cant record. So this is what Im talking about, people. Do you think those guys are there to help you or me? What is going on?" he questioned.
In a subsequent visit to the hotel, Crowd the Source observed that the U.S. military personnel had vacated the Wolcott Hotel shortly after the incident gained widespread attention. The Gateway Pundit has reached out to the management of the Wolcott Hotel and the office of Governor Kathy Hochul for comment regarding the military presence at the hotel. As of the time of publication, no response has been received. This leaves lingering questions about the role of the military in civilian spaces and the implications for individual freedom and limited government intervention.
