In a shocking development from California, police have unearthed human remains from beneath the residence of a man charged with the murder of a couple who vanished from a nudist resort.
The couple, Stephanie and Daniel Menard, were last seen on Saturday, August 24.
According to Fox News, the Redlands Police Department revealed that on Friday, authorities managed to access "the area under the home where murder suspect Michael Sparks was located on Thursday" at the Olive Dell Ranch in Colton. The police began extracting bags of evidence from the location. "Coroners officials confirmed the evidence included human remains," the department stated. However, the excavation was halted due to the risk of potential collapse, prompting the removal of all personnel.
The discovered human remains are currently under examination by the local coroners office. Carl Baker, the City of Redlands spokesperson, expressed confidence on Friday that the Menards were deceased and still on Sparks property. He further disclosed that Sparks was discovered hiding under his home on Thursday night, after ignoring police attempts to communicate for several hours.
The Menards were reported missing by a friend on Sunday, last seen at their home at the resort. The police department noted, "The Menards' unlocked vehicle was located down the road from their residence the same day. Stephanie Menards purse was found inside of her residence along with her and Daniel's cell phones." The couple's small white Shih Tzu named Cuddles is also missing.
Sparks now faces murder charges, although the motive behind the alleged killings remains unclear. The Olive Dell Ranch, where this grim discovery was made, is described on its website as "Southern Californias favorite nudist resort for families and couples," and "the ideal spot to enjoy the nudist/naturist lifestyle whether visiting for the day or an overnight stay."
