Utah officially has a new flag.

It also makes one with a symbolic beehive, the new state flag. Governor Spencer Cox signed a bill and an executive order to declare the previous state flag a historic state flag.

According to Fox News, The new state flag features a large yellow beehive the states symbol for Industry, also its motto at its center with red, white, and blue running horizontally in the background. The white section in the center also makes pointed crests, reflective of the states mountainous terrain.

Republican Governor Cox didnt say anything negative about the old state flag. He said it represented the strength and resilience of the people of Utah and that everyone should be proud of the states history.

The Daughter of the Revolution in 1903 designed the original flag. It became the flag of Utah in 1911. However, its not entirely gone. The new flag uses the same blue color to honor the old flag. Both flags will also be flown at the state capital. The governor went on to say that when the two flags are bolted together, the historic flag should be flown above the new one as a symbol of the states history and the strength of the people.

It has been a long fight to change the state flag. Overall, it began five years ago. Although it started in 2019, officials selected the new flag last summer. The issue took center stage during the election, resulting in numerous changes to the bill that approved the new flag.

According to sltrib.com, The final version of the bill signed by Cox on Tuesday makes the modern version the official flag of the state while designating three variations of the current flag as historical. The result is that the new bill designates four flags for Utah, three of which are historical. Any of the four flags can be flown anytime for any reason.

The original state flag will be flown on special holidays. However, despite the many changes made to the bill, and the fact that there are now four flags, there is still opposition. Opponents want it to be up to a public vote, but they must gather 134,298 signatures by April 12 to make it happen.
