A former Biden administration appointee and Texas Democrat, Taral Patel, is currently embroiled in an investigation for allegedly impersonating a judge and a real estate agent in a purported racial abuse hoax.
Patel is accused of sending himself racially offensive messages on social media, a move that has raised eyebrows and sparked controversy.
As reported by Mediaite, Patel was apprehended in June following allegations that he had fabricated racist messages and attributed them to supporters of his Republican adversary, Andy Meyers, the Fort Bend Precinct 3 Commissioner. The investigation has since widened, with Patel now suspected of impersonating a judge and a realtor as part of his alleged scheme.
Patel, who proudly states on his website that he was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve in the Office of White House Liaison, is alleged to have used multiple fake accounts to send himself racially offensive messages. He then blamed these messages on his opponent's supporters in an attempt to discredit them.
In a Facebook post, Patel reportedly shared the fabricated messages, stating, As your Democratic candidate for County Commissioner, I am always open to criticism of my policy positions and stances on issues. However, when my Republican opponents supporters [sic] decide to hurl racist, anti-immigrant, Hinduphobic, or otherwise disgusting insults at my family, faith community, colleagues, and me that crosses a line.
ABC13 reported that Patel also disseminated the fake messages in a press release, seemingly in an attempt to garner sympathy and support. However, his alleged scheme was uncovered after Meyers requested that the Fort Bend County District Attorneys Office initiate an investigation into the supposed harassment against Patel.
Following a subpoena to Facebook and Google, it was revealed that one of the accounts was linked to Patel. Despite the ongoing investigation and his arrest in June, Patel remains in the race, continuing his challenge against Meyers for the position of Precinct 3 commissioner.
