In a recent development, Nicole Shanahan, the vice-presidential candidate running alongside independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has described their campaign's alliance with former President Trump as a "true coalition."
This statement came in the wake of Kennedy's endorsement of Trump on Monday, a move that has stirred up the political landscape.
According to The Hill, Shanahan, in a conversation with NewsNation's Chris Cuomo, hinted at the possibility of Trump assigning Kennedy a position in his Cabinet, should he secure a victory in the upcoming November elections. "I would love to see this as a true coalition government. You know, this is not something we talk about here in the United States, but in other democracies, coalitions are very, very common," Shanahan expressed on NewsNation's "Cuomo."
She further elaborated on the role Kennedy would play in such a coalition, stating, "So, in a coalition government, Bobby would be in charge to represent our movement, our party, our voices within this Cabinet and, and I have full faith that, you know, Trump is going to honor that."
Kennedy, who recently suspended his presidential campaign to endorse Trump, clarified that there were "no commitments" to serve in Trump's administration if he wins the election. However, the Trump campaign announced on Tuesday that Kennedy would be part of the former president's transition team. Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (I-Hawaii) has also been selected to serve on the transition team.
Senior campaign adviser Brian Hughes, in a statement, expressed his anticipation of having their influential voices on the team, stating, "We look forward to having their powerful voices on the team as we work to restore Americas greatness."
Shanahan, in her Monday conversation with Cuomo, described the endorsement of Trump as "amazing," stating that they had "crossed the chasm." She emphasized that Kennedy is at the forefront, focusing on the issues that matter most to Americans. She also praised Trump for his willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue on significant policies, even if they don't always agree.
Shanahan was quick to clarify that this was not a case of their campaign being absorbed into the Trump camp. Instead, she described it as a partnership and a meeting of minds with strong boundaries and expectations. This development highlights the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the political landscape, as alliances shift and new partnerships form in the pursuit of shared goals.
