In a shocking incident in Seattle, a local plumber, Damon Koler, bravely intervened in a violent carjacking that resulted in the tragic death of an elderly woman.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, saw Koler wielding a baseball bat against the alleged carjacker, Jahmed Haynes, in a desperate attempt to halt the unfolding tragedy, as reported by FOX13.
According to the Daily Caller, Koler witnessed Haynes attacking 80-year-old professional dog walker, Ruth Dalton. In response, Koler retrieved a baseball bat from his work van and used it to shatter the rear window of Dalton's SUV, which Haynes was purportedly attempting to steal. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a pocketknife in Haynes' hand as he started to reverse the vehicle, with Dalton precariously hanging from the driver's side.
Koler recounted his heroic actions to FOX13, explaining how he sprinted to his van, seized the bat, and slid across the hood of the SUV. He then swung the bat, shattering the back window and enabling some of the dogs inside to escape. Tragically, Dalton fell from the SUV before Haynes allegedly reversed over her, causing fatal injuries. An autopsy later revealed that Dalton had suffered "crushing injuries to her torso."
Following the incident, Haynes reportedly fled the scene and drove 20 minutes south of Seattle. In a further act of brutality, he allegedly killed one of Dalton's dogs and discarded it in a recycling bin. This callous act ultimately led to his downfall, as police were able to match prints taken from the bin to Haynes, resulting in his arrest.
Koler revealed to FOX13 that the baseball bat he used in his brave intervention had been left in the van by the previous owner of his plumbing company. Reflecting on the incident, he said, "It was in my vehicle, there was a reason it was in there honestly, things happen in mysterious ways."
Despite his courageous actions, Koler does not see himself as a hero. He told FOX13, "Not at all. Not at allI hope anyone would have done the exact same thing I did." His humble response underscores the selfless nature of his actions, as he risked his own safety in an attempt to save Dalton.
