Former President Trump has already announced that hes running for the 2024 Presidential election. DeSantis has yet to make that announcement, but many think he would be Trumps most significant rival if he ran. The two have been making jabs back and forth since.
However, DeSantis did not immediately comment on Trumps possible indictment. This instantly led to backlash from the GOP. Per NBC, In the meantime, Trump world social media influencers and acolytes raked DeSantis over virtual coals, pointing to his silence as complicity in or at least indifference to New York County District Attorney Alvin Braggs pursuit of Trump, the GOPs top leader. Trump supporters slammed the Florida governor on social media platforms, including Twitter. Then, DeSantis finally commented on the situation, and things instantly escalated between the two.
It started when DeSantis commented on allegations that President Trump paid a porn star hush money to stay silent about their alleged affair. Trump is headed to court on the matter. Mediaite said DeSantis said, I dont know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star. What I can speak to is if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening daily in his jurisdiction. He chose to go back many, many years ago. Thats an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office. Almost instantly, Trump took to Truth Social to fire back and DeSantis. Per the same news source, Trump said DeSantis will probably find out about false accusations and fake stories going on to say as he gets older, wiser and better known when hes unfairly or illegally attacked by a woman or even classmates that are under age or possibly a man.
After that, Trump linked to a story about DeSantis partying hard with underage girls while teaching at a Georgia school. The other side says it was just DeSantis hanging out with some of his students. However, Trump has repeatedly implied that DeSantis was grooming underage girls with alcohol, and many say that Trump insinuates that DeSantis is a pedophile. No one knows whether the picture of a younger DeSantis hanging out with an underage girl is legit.
Many say that this hurts DeSantis if he chooses to run. Thats because they feel that if you dont have MAGA behind you, you cant win as a Republican right now. However, that makes things look a little more solid for Trump.
