In a shocking incident, a Haitian man, residing in the U.S. illegally, was apprehended by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on allegations of sexually assaulting a pregnant woman in a Massachusetts migrant hotel.
The accused, 34-year-old Marc Kervens Beauvais, was arrested by the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston on August 13 in Peabody, a city north of Boston. This arrest came nearly two weeks after Beauvais was initially detained on charges of aggravated rape, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a pregnant victim, and an attempt to commit a crime.
As reported by Fox News, the horrifying incident took place inside a migrant hotel. Beauvais was initially arrested by the Peabody Police Department on July 31 and was arraigned in the Peabody District Court on August 1. While Beauvais was in custody, ERO Boston sought an immigration detainer against him. In a surprising turn of events, Beauvais was released on his own recognizance by a judge during a court hearing. However, ICE officers present in the courtroom immediately arrested him.
"Marc Kervens Beauvais is charged with committing unspeakable acts against a pregnant woman in Massachusetts," stated ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons. He emphasized that such threats to the community cannot be tolerated and assured that ERO Boston would continue its mission of prioritizing public safety by aggressively apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.
According to ICE, Beauvais was first arrested by Border Patrol on June 26, 2021, near Del Rio, Texas, after he illegally crossed into the U.S. He was subsequently released into the U.S. with a notice to report for processing.
This incident coincides with the arrest of another Haitian immigrant, 26-year-old Cory B. Alvarez, who was apprehended by ICE after being released on a $500 bond in June. Alvarez was facing charges of sexually assaulting a minor at a different Massachusetts migrant hotel in March. Despite ICE issuing a detainer on Alvarez, the local sheriff's office overlooked it and released him on low bail. Alvarez was arrested in a sanctuary city, where the detainer was disregarded.
Alvarez, who arrived in June 2023 under the parole process for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV), was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while residing at a migrant hotel in Massachusetts. His lawyer maintains his innocence.
