During a recent White House press conference, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was unable to pinpoint a specific policy accomplishment of Vice President Kamala Harris when queried by a reporter.
The question posed was, "Given that theyve worked so closely together in that time, what does the President see as the vice Presidents biggest achievement during their time in office together?"
Jean-Pierre's response was somewhat nebulous, emphasizing the partnership between President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris rather than highlighting any concrete achievements. "So, look, because theyve been partners, those achievements have been done certainly, those historic, unprecedented achievements have been done together," she began. She further added, "Ill say this, the President believes in the Vice President's leadership, her temperament, her experience. And he is and he has said this himself: One of the proudest decisions that he made in 2020 was selecting her as Vice President because he believed that she can go on day one. And youve seen that youve seen them do that together on day one of this administration. That doesnt change."
As reported by The Post Millennial, Biden withdrew from the race in late July, with Harris stepping into his shoes, despite not having received any primary votes. More than three weeks after her ascension, Harris's campaign website remains devoid of any policy objectives for a potential term in the White House.
The Press Secretary continued to emphasize the partnership between Biden and Harris, stating, "Im not going to parse out anything from here. They have been partners. Shes been a critical partner for this president, for for during this term and will continue to do so. You will see them together on Thursday in Maryland where they will talk about their next announcement on lowering costs for the American people."
When pressed further by the reporter for a specific policy achievement, Jean-Pierre responded, "I would say its a comprehensive whole. Her our accomplishments here, the Biden-Harris accomplishments are the Biden-Harris accomplishments. Shes played a role, whether it is being on the floor of the Senate, right, getting really important legislations to come to pass through, right? Or being in the room with the president on trying to figure out how to move forward strategically with a policy or how to make tough decisions on behalf of the American people. Shes been there. She has been there."
Jean-Pierre underscored that Harris has been a "critical partner," and that there have been "historic" moments throughout Bidens term in the White House.
However, Harris's tenure as Vice President has not been without controversy. Her role as "border czar" under the Biden administration has drawn criticism due to the record numbers of illegal immigrants since Biden took office in 2021. Despite being touted as the presumptive Democratic Party candidate, Axios reported that Harris was never officially the border czar for the administration. Rather than addressing the escalating concerns at the southern border, Harris chose to visit Guatemala to tackle the "root cause" of illegal immigration. At an August rally, Harris acknowledged, "We know our immigration system is broken, and we know what it takes to fix it."
Further controversy arose when Harris was accused of copying Trump's No Tax on Tips policy. She announced at an August rally that she would strive to "eliminate taxes on tips for hospitality and service utility workers" if elected, a plan Trump had unveiled months earlier.
While the Biden-Harris administration continues to emphasize their partnership, the lack of specific policy achievements attributed to Vice President Harris raises questions about her role and effectiveness in this administration.
