Trump's Solo Spotlight: What Happens If Kamala Bails On Two Key Debates?

The potential absence of Vice President Kamala Harris in two proposed presidential debates, which former President Donald Trump has agreed to participate in, could see these events transformed into townhall meetings.

The Trump campaign has indicated that the former President is prepared to make solo appearances on television if Harris declines the invitation to participate in the debates scheduled for September.

According to The Post Millennial, the Trump campaign communicated to The Epoch Times that if Harris opts out of the proposed debates on Fox News on September 4 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and another on NBC News on September 25 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with Lester Holt as the moderator, Trump will appear alone on the broadcasts.

Both Trump and Harris have confirmed their participation in a third debate on ABC on September 10, with David Muir, anchor of ABC World News Tonight, moderating the event at Philadelphias Independence Hall. Trump announced his commitment to all three debates during an August 8 press conference at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump expressed his anticipation for the debates on Truth Social, stating, I look forward to seeing Kamala at all three Debates! However, Harris seems to have declined the other two debates, telling reporters, "I am looking forward to debating Donald Trump and we have a date of September 10, I hear he has finally committed to it and I am looking forward to it." When asked about her attendance at all three debates, she responded, "I am happy to have that conversation about an additional debate for after September 10."

The calls for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race were triggered by his poor performance in a June 27 CNN debate with Trump. These calls intensified following a failed assassination attempt against Trump on July 13. On July 21, Biden conceded but pledged to complete his term and endorsed Harris.

The RealClear Politics average of opinion polls currently shows Harris slightly ahead of Trump by 0.5 percent. It is anticipated that her standing in the polls will receive a further boost following the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for August 19 to 22 in Chicago.

The Trump campaign has criticized Harris for her lack of engagement with the media, including her refusal to answer questions or grant interviews. This lack of transparency raises questions about her commitment to open dialogue and her ability to effectively communicate her policies to the American public.
