Meet The New Puppet Master: How The 'New Soros In Town' Is Pulling The Strings For 2024

The political landscape has seen a significant shift since Alex Soros, son of George Soros, assumed control of his father's political operations in June 2023.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Alex has since funneled millions into various initiatives aimed at influencing the 2024 elections, as evidenced by financial disclosures.

According to the Daily Caller, Democracy PAC, the primary vehicle through which the Soros family channels its wealth into electoral politics, has expended approximately $40 million since Alex took the helm. This shift in leadership has brought about a change in the PAC's focus, with less emphasis on criminal justice and more on aiding Democrats in retaining the presidency.

In a 2023 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Alex Soros differentiated himself from his father, stating, Im more political. As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we will have to do it, too. This statement underscores the competitive nature of political funding, a reality further highlighted by OpenSecrets' analysis of campaign finance records, which revealed that Democratic-aligned groups outspent their conservative counterparts by $200 million in the 2020 election.

Since Alex Soros assumed control, Democracy PAC has transferred $10 million to Future Forward PAC, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records. Future Forward PAC, initially designated as the primary super PAC to bolster the Democratic presidential campaign in 2020, has since shifted its support to Vice President Kamala Harris following President Joe Biden's withdrawal.

In contrast, George Soros demonstrated less interest in utilizing Democracy PAC for presidential politics, having donated only $1 million to Future Forward PAC during the same period in the 2020 election. However, he did personally contribute approximately $500,000 to support Biden's campaign in 2020, a sum still less than the $721,000 donated by Alex that year.

The Soros family's political influence extends beyond Democracy PAC. The Open Society Foundations, a philanthropic network established by George Soros and now led by his son, has funneled millions into left-leaning activist groups aimed at thwarting former President Donald Trump's electoral success.

Interestingly, Alex Soros appears less invested in criminal justice than his father. Since June 2023, he has allocated only about $1.1 million to criminal justice-focused groups through Democracy PAC, compared to the over $5.6 million his father disbursed during the same period in the 2020 election cycle.

Moreover, Alex Soros transferred $60 million from the Fund for Policy Reform, a criminal justice nonprofit within the Open Society Foundations network, to Democracy PAC in January, as per campaign finance records. This move, coupled with the lack of direct payments from the Soros family to California Justice & Public Safety PAC this election cycle, suggests a drying up of funds for criminal justice causes under Alex's leadership.

Despite these differences, there are similarities in how father and son have managed Democracy PAC. Both have donated millions to the Senate Majority PAC and House Majority PAC, committees dedicated to electing Democratic candidates to Congress. Since June 2023, Alex has directed $9.5 million to these committees, slightly less than the $10 million his father contributed during the same period in 2020.

Both Soros have also made substantial donations to pro-abortion committees and PACs aimed at increasing female representation in elected office. Alex Soros has explicitly stated his intention to continue his father's legacy of promoting feminism and expanding access to abortion.

With $125 million earmarked for Democracy PAC, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, Alex Soros is solidifying his position as a Democratic megadonor. His influence is further evidenced by his frequent visits to the White House under the Biden-Harris administration, where he has met with high-ranking officials such as Amanda Sloat, the National Security Councils senior director for Europe, and Jon Finer, the principal deputy national security adviser.

A representative for the Soros family did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the impact of Alex Soros's leadership and the strategic shifts within Democracy PAC will undoubtedly be closely watched.
