Rising Hollywood starlet Jenna Ortega recently issued a stark warning to the entertainment industry, cautioning that political correctness is leading to a loss of honesty and integrity.
Ortega, known for her role in Beetlejuice, voiced her concerns during an interview with Vanity Fair, expressing her belief that the industry's obsession with political correctness is eroding its humanity.
According to Gateway Pundit, Ortega stated, The business that we work in is so touchy-feely. Everybody wants to be politically correct, but I feel like, in doing that, we lose a lot of our humanity and integrity, because it lacks honesty. The young actress went on to advocate for open dialogue, suggesting that a more honest conversation could lead to productive debates rather than arguments.
Ortega further questioned, Am I describing world peace? Her comments come in the wake of an incident involving her Scream VII co-star Melissa Barrera, who was dismissed from the film after making controversial remarks about Israel's actions in Gaza.
A representative for Spyglass, the production company behind Scream VII, stated, We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech, following Barrera's termination.
Ortega, who left the film the day after Barrera's dismissal citing scheduling conflicts, has shown her support for Jewish Voice for Peace, an organization that opposes the conflict in Gaza.
Her departure from the film and her subsequent comments highlight the tension between political correctness and free speech in Hollywood, a debate that continues to shape the industry's future.
