In a recent podcast episode, Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, issued a dire warning about the potential global consequences of a Kamala Harris presidency.
She painted a grim picture of a country on the brink of disaster, suggesting that the policies of the Biden-Harris administration are leading the U.S. towards a recession and could even ignite World War III.
According to Newsweek, Lara Trump's comments came as she addressed her listeners, stating, "This is serious. We are really on the verge of a lot of terrible things happening in our country and in our world." She further questioned the wisdom of supporting such a leadership, asking, "Can you truly tell me that you're going to be able to look at your kids when we are actually in a recession, whenever we are actually in World War III, when things are dissolving around us and the country that we've always known is absolutely in shambles, and you're going to be able to look at your kids and say, yeah, I voted for this?"
She attributed the U.S.'s current trajectory towards a recession to the policies of the Biden-Harris administration, specifically citing the shutdown of the Keystone XL pipeline. Lara Trump argued that this decision had resulted in inflation, increased gasoline prices, and damage to the country's energy independence. She further suggested that such policies have weakened the U.S. and emboldened adversaries like Iran and Russia, stating that it "allowed them the money to do the invasions, and to, you know, start the wars that are going on across the world right now."
Lara Trump also criticized Harris's career trajectory, accusing her of having "failed upward her entire career" and becoming Vice President "based on the fact that she was a minority woman," which she found "gross." She added, "Do me a favor. Don't ever give me a position based on the fact that I'm a woman either. I earned it or I didn't. And that's it."
Her appointment as co-chair of the Republican National Committee in March has faced scrutiny, given that her father-in-law was the party's presumptive presidential candidate at the time. The criticism of Harris, on the other hand, stems from Joe Biden's 2020 promise to select a woman as his running mate. However, it should be noted that Harris was elected Vice President not through diversity hiring practices, but because more Americans voted for her and Biden than for Mike Pence and Donald Trump.
Lara Trump further scrutinized Harris's past performance, including her failed 2019 presidential campaign, which ended before the primary season reached California, Harris's home state. She also criticized Harris's tenure as the so-called "border czar," blaming her for the current state of the U.S.-Mexico border and suggesting that her leadership contributed to what she called an "epic failure" in controlling illegal immigration.
The term "border czar" has been widely used by the media and the Republican Party to describe Harris since March 2021, when Biden assigned her the task of overseeing diplomatic efforts with the governments of Mexico and other Central American countries to address the "root cause" of the influx of migrants across the southern border. Data from Customs and Border Protection shows that a higher number of illegal migrants have crossed into the U.S. each month under the Biden administration than under the previous Trump administration.
Lara Trump concluded her podcast by urging listeners, particularly parents, to consider the future of the country and vote for her father-in-law in the upcoming election. "We need a proven leader," she said, "someone who's done it before someone who's going to protect us and give us this country back."
