In a surprising turn of events, Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her running mate, a decision that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) believes will pave the way for a triumphant return of former President Donald Trump to the White House.
The announcement, which came on Tuesday morning, has stirred up the political landscape, as Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania was previously considered a strong contender for the position.
According to The Post Millennial, Johnson expressed his disbelief at Harris's choice, stating, I didnt expect that she would do it. He criticized Harris for not selecting a more conservative VP candidate to balance the ticket, adding, because she has proven, once again, to be true to her principles and her priorities, and theyre not aligned with the American people.
Johnson, in his conversation with The Hill, labeled Walz as a far-left candidate and choice, asserting that this selection underscores the Democratic Party's left-leaning trajectory. It makes it easier for us, Johnson said. He is a far-left candidate and choice. I frankly thought that she might try to choose a moderate, but obviously she has proven once again who she is. We refer to Kamala Harris as a San Francisco radical because she is.
The House Speaker further emphasized that Harris's reputation as a far-left Democrat is well-established. I think the choice of Walz, I think just further verifies that, he told The Hill. Johnson stressed the importance of making the Democrats' positions known to the public, and not allowing them to obscure their record, which he believes they are already attempting to do.
Harris had narrowed down her choice to three candidates: Walz, Shapiro, and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ). Johnson opined to The Hill that Shapiro would have been a smarter choice for Harris, despite the potential for his Jewish ethnicity to polarize Democratic voters divided over Israels war in Gaza. The far-left progressive base has shown opposition to sympathy for Israel following the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas terrorists, who massacred 1,200 and kidnapped over 200, most of whom remain in Hamas' custody.
Johnson's comments underscore the conservative perspective that Harris's choice of Walz may indeed make the path to the presidency less challenging for Trump, given the perceived disconnect between the Democratic leadership and the American people.
