In a recent development, an Iranian lawmaker has issued a chilling threat to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This alarming statement comes as a proposed retaliation for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, as per reports circulating in regional media.
As reported by Newsweek, Mohammad Qasim Osmani, during his speech to the Iranian parliament, urged for the reiteration of Operation True Promise. This operation marked Iran's inaugural direct assault on Israel, which took place on the night of April 13-14, launching over 300 ballistic missiles at two Israeli air force bases. Osmani was quoted saying, "I hope that another Operation True Promise will be carried out as blood revenge for. We don't agree on anything less than Netanyahu's death." This quote was translated from a report by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) by Armenian News.
Representing the Kurdish city of Bukan, Osmani continued his fiery rhetoric, labeling Israel as "insolent" for "shedding the blood of a guest in Tehran," according to the same report. The 'guest' he referred to was Haniyeh, the chief of Hamas' political bureau. Haniyeh was assassinated post his attendance at the inauguration ceremony of Iran's newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran last Tuesday.
This incident underscores the escalating tensions in the region, with Iran's open threat against Israel's Prime Minister. It also raises questions about the international community's response to such blatant threats and the potential implications for regional stability. The conservative viewpoint would likely emphasize the need for a strong response to such threats, underscoring the importance of national security and the rule of law.
