In a recent incident in New York City, the Secret Service detail assigned to Ella Emhoff, stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, apprehended an individual identified as an "anti-police watcher" during a heated exchange on a city sidewalk.
The incident, which was captured on video, occurred while Emhoff was dining in a Tribeca restaurant.
As reported by The New York Post, the individual, known for his city-wide complaints about NYPD parking placards, confronted Emhoff's detail outside the restaurant. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was dressed in a black shirt and was unaware that he was confronting a member of the Secret Service. The confrontation escalated when the man reportedly removed a license plate from one of the parked black SUVs, prompting a call to the NYPD.
The video shows Emhoff, who was inside the restaurant with a friend, being swiftly escorted out and placed in one of the SUVs. The man was subsequently handcuffed and arrested, although the charges he faces remain unclear.
The Secret Service confirmed to TMZ that the man had tampered with a license plate without provocation before being detained and arrested. They assured that no protectee was in danger during the incident.
This incident comes at a time when the Secret Service is facing criticism following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump's right ear was grazed by a bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks, who had managed to climb onto a nearby roof undetected by law enforcement. This recent event in New York City only adds to the growing concerns about the effectiveness of the Secret Service in ensuring the safety of those under their protection.
