In a shocking revelation, it has been discovered that the illegal immigrant implicated in the shooting of a police officer in San Antonio, Texas, had narrowly escaped deportation.
The accused, Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national, was allowed to stay in the United States by a judge after he claimed he would face persecution if he was forced to return to his home country. Chacon-Gutierrez first set foot on American soil in November 2023.
According to The Post Millennial, the incident occurred over the weekend when Chacon-Gutierrez was fatally involved in a shootout with police during a domestic violence call. The officer, who was shot multiple times, survived the encounter and is currently recuperating from her injuries.
A source from the Department of Homeland Security disclosed to the New York Post that Chacon-Gutierrez was part of a group of approximately 600 individuals who illegally crossed the border into the US last fall. Upon his arrival, he was processed by Customs and Border Protection agents for "expedited removal," but he pleaded for his stay. His claim of persecution was initially rejected by an asylum officer, leading him to take his case to an immigration court. The judge subsequently lifted his removal order, allowing him to stay in the country with a scheduled court appearance in 2026.
However, less than a year later, Chacon-Gutierrez found himself at the center of a violent incident. In the early hours of Sunday, police were alerted by Chacon-Gutierrez's girlfriend, who reported that he had assaulted her. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, as reported by the Daily Mail, stated that upon their arrival, the officers found the Venezuelan national "laying in bed with a rifle by his side." As the officers entered the apartment, "he started shooting."
In response, the officers fired back before retreating from the apartment. Shortly after, SWAT officers entered the premises and found the suspect deceased. It remains unclear whether Chacon-Gutierrez was hit by an officer's bullet or if he took his own life. The injured officer was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery hours later. This incident underscores the ongoing debate about immigration policies and their potential implications for public safety.
