In a recent social media exchange, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York accused the Republican Party of having an "incel platform," a term she used to describe what she perceives as the party's fixation on controlling women and the LGBTQ+ community.
"Being obsessed with repressing women is goofy. Trying to watch what LGBTQ+ people do all the time is abnormal. Punishing people who dont have biological offspring is creepy. Its an incel platform, dude," Ocasio-Cortez stated. "Its SUPER weird. And people need to know."
According to The Post Millennial, Ocasio-Cortez's comments were a response to a post by former GOP primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who criticized the Democrats' strategy of labeling their opponents as "weird." Ramaswamy argued, "This whole 'theyre weird' argument from the Democrats is dumb & juvenile. This is a presidential election, not a high school prom queen contest. Its also a tad ironic coming from the party that preaches 'diversity & inclusion.' Win on policy if you can, but cut the crap please."
The debate continued with Senator Brian Schatz and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton joining the fray. Schatz pointed out several policies he found "weird," including "assigning extra votes to certain people based on the size of their family" and "banning library books." Clinton suggested that if Republicans didn't want to be called "weird, creepy, and controlling," they should stop behaving in such a manner.
The Democratic Party's official account also participated in the exchange, labeling former President Donald Trump as "old and weird." The post included a decontextualized clip of Trump discussing a female weightlifting champion who was outperformed by a biological male.
The online dispute occurs amidst criticism of vice presidential candidate JD Vance by left-leaning media outlets. Vance has been scrutinized for comments made in recent years, with critics often omitting the context of his statements. "Why have we let the Democrat Party become controlled by people who don't have children," Vance questioned in a 2021 speech. He later clarified on Tucker Carlsons show, "What I was basically saying is that we're effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and they want to make the rest of the country miserable too."
Vance also shared a clip of Vice President Kamala Harris stating her pronouns at a town hall event in 2020, captioning it "'JD Vance is weird.'" Other users highlighted Harris's interactions with drag queens and other members of the Biden administration.
The debate coincides with the release of an anti-Trump ad by the pro-Kamala Harris PAC "Won't PAC Down," featuring white males discussing their desire for government involvement in personal matters. A group called "White Dudes for Harris" has also emerged, vowing not to allow the "MAGA crowd" to intimidate others into supporting what they perceive as a "hateful and divisive ideology." The group declared, "We aren't going to sit around and let the MAGA crowd bully other white guys into voting for a hateful and divisive ideology because we understand that under MAGA everyone loses."
This online exchange underscores the ongoing ideological battle between the two major political parties, with each side accusing the other of promoting harmful policies and perspectives.
