Missouri's Attorney General, Andrew Bailey, has declared his intent to sue the Biden administration, seeking documents related to the transportation of illegal immigrants into the state.
Bailey's announcement came on Monday, as he expressed his concerns over what he believes to be a deliberate act by the administration.
According to The Post Millennial, Bailey stated, "I am filing suit against Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for REFUSING to turn over documents about the flying of illegal immigrants into Missouri." He added, "We have reason to believe they are deliberately flying illegal aliens from the border into our cities. Not on my watch."
Earlier in May, a group of GOP Missouri lawmakers, led by Representative Mark Alford, had voiced their concerns to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas. They demanded answers regarding the transportation of illegal immigrants into the U.S. The lawmakers were particularly concerned about the Biden administration's Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (CHNV) parole program. They noted that since its inception in January 2023, the program has facilitated the entry of over 400,000 illegal immigrants into the U.S.
The lawmakers' letter highlighted that two individuals were flown into Missouri in 2023, stating, "we have grave concerns about bringing unvetted, and otherwise inadmissible illegal aliens into the United States." They sought clarification on the procedures in place to track those brought in through the program and the number of individuals flown into Missouri.
Bailey had previously criticized Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas for his welcoming stance towards illegal immigrants. Bailey told Fox News, "An illegal alien from Venezula, who had repeatedly flouted U.S. immigration laws, was actually granted a work permit under a misguided and illegal policy enacted by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In February, he brutally murdered a young college student named Laken Hope Riley."
Bailey expressed his concern about the influx of illegal immigrants, stating, "Yet, against the backdrop of literally millions of illegal aliens flooding our borders, overwhelming the social safety net of large American cities, and in some cases even committing violent crimes against our citizens, you are actively encouraging them to come to the Show Me State."
Mayor Lucas had previously stated, "All are welcome in Kansas City. Proud to work with my fellow mayors from Denver and NYC as we work to ensure decompression of new arriving communities." However, he later revised his statement to specify that the offer was only for "persons who are lawfully present, with lawful work permits."
