In a surprising turn of events, former President Donald Trump has agreed to an interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following revelations that counter snipers had identified potential assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks a full 90 minutes prior to his attempted assassination.
According to The Post Millennial, the decision for the interview comes after the FBI had been seeking an opportunity to speak with Trump for several days. This development coincides with the emergence of text messages from the counter snipers, shedding light on the events leading up to the assassination attempt.
The New York Times has obtained these text messages, one of which was sent at 4:26 pm by a counter sniper who had spotted a man, later identified as Crooks, at a picnic table. The counter sniper, who was ending his shift, informed his colleagues, "Someone followed our lead and snuck in and parked by our cars just so you know. I'm just letting you know because you see me go out with my rifle and put it in my car so he knows you guys are up there." This message was part of a group chat involving multiple agents assigned to protect Trump that day.
The same agent, while signing off, noted that Crooks was "sitting to the direct right on a picnic table about 50 yards from the exit." This message was sent at 4:27 pm, roughly 90 minutes before Crooks initiated his attack. Two other counter snipers acknowledged the message from the departing agent.
At approximately 5:38 pm, another counter sniper sent images of Crooks to the group chat, stating, "Kid learning around building we are in. I did see him with a range finder looking towards stage. FYI. If you wanna notify SS snipers to look out. I lost sight of him." The chat also received photos of Crooks outside the building.
Further investigations revealed that Crooks had been in the vicinity for three hours before the rally commenced, without being stopped or questioned. He later ascended to the roof and attempted to assassinate Trump at 6:12 pm. The attack resulted in Trump being grazed in the ear, while 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver sustained critical injuries. Tragically, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore lost his life while shielding his wife and daughters from the gunfire.
