Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign has recently refuted claims that she would impose a fracking ban if she were to assume the presidency, despite her previous pledges to do just that during her 2020 presidential campaign.
According to The Daily Wire, former President Donald Trump addressed supporters at a North Carolina rally, stating, "She wants no fracking. You're going to be paying a lot of money.
You're going to be paying so much. You're going to say 'bring back Trump.'" The Harris campaign swiftly countered Trump's assertions, labeling them as "false claims about fracking bans" and accusing him of attempting to "distract from his own plans to enrich oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class."
However, Harris, who was then a U.S. Senator from California and considered the most left-leaning Democrat in the Senate, had previously expressed her support for a fracking ban during her 2020 campaign.
She stated unequivocally at a CNN town hall event in 2019, "There's no question I'm in favor of banning fracking. And starting with what we can do on day one around public lands, and there has to be legislation.
That's something I've taken on in California. I have a history of working on this issue, and to your point, we have to just acknowledge that the residual impact of fracking is enormous in terms of the health and safety of communities."
Harris further emphasized her stance on the issue during a 2019 appearance on Jimmy Fallon, where she identified climate change as the "single greatest threat" facing the world. She affirmed her commitment to passing the Green New Deal and "finally putting an end to fracking once and for all."
The apparent contradiction between Harris's earlier pledges and her campaign's recent statements raises questions about her true stance on fracking and its implications for the American economy and environment.
