In the midst of the presidential race, Joe Biden harbored reservations about stepping down, primarily due to doubts about Kamala Harris's ability to triumph over Donald Trump.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, Biden and his team were hesitant to withdraw from the race, questioning whether Harris was equipped to secure the presidency.
According to a report, "President Biden hesitated to drop his re-election campaign in part because he and his senior advisers worried that Vice President Kamala Harris wasnt up to taking on Donald Trump," as stated by three Biden aides privy to the discussions about his plans. Biden, at 81, eventually yielded to party pressure, endorsing Harris. However, his private apprehensions mirror broader concerns among some Democratic leaders about Harris as their nominee this November.
The upcoming week is crucial for Harris, 59, as she strives to dispel doubts and eliminate potential challengers for the Democratic nomination. The report also highlighted a strained relationship between Biden and Harris. "The relationship between the Vice Presidents office and the West Wing has often been tense. White House aides sometimes felt Harris wasnt a team player and stayed away from any task with risk," the report stated.
Harris's team, on the other hand, felt unsupported by the White House, particularly by top aide Anita Dunn. They suspected that Biden's team was reluctant to provide Harris with opportunities to excel, to prevent her from emerging as a viable alternative to Biden ahead of his re-election bid.
Despite these apprehensions, Biden endorsed Harris's candidacy wholeheartedly, declaring that appointing her as his Vice-President was the "best decision I ever made." Harris, for her part, has vowed to "unite" the Democrat Party and "earn and win" the nomination, a promise that will be put to the test in the coming weeks.
