WATCH: Kentucky Governor's Cryptic Response Fuels VP Speculation Is He Kamala's Pick?

Written by Published

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has tactfully sidestepped questions regarding his potential candidacy as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

In a recent interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Beshear neither confirmed nor denied his involvement in the vice-presidential race, stating, its flattering to be a part of it..

According to The New York Post, the Governor's evasive response came on the heels of President Biden's decision to withdraw his re-election campaign. Beshear, 46, expressed his dedication to his current role, emphasizing his love for serving the people of Kentucky. He stated, The only way I would consider something other than this current job is if I believe I can further help my people and to help this country.

Beshear's comments suggest a willingness to consider the vice-presidential role if it would benefit his constituents and the nation. He added, I think if somebody calls you on that, what you do is at least listen. And I want the American people to know what a Kentuckian is and what they look like. Because let me just tell you that JD Vance aint from here.

The Governor's potential candidacy was discussed shortly after he offered a glowing endorsement of Harris, 59, making him the latest Democrat to support President Biden's chosen successor. Beshear praised the Vice President's qualities, stating, The vice president is smart and strong which will make her a good president. But shes also kind and has empathy, which can make her a great president.

Beshear's endorsement of Harris and his ambiguous stance on the vice-presidential role have fueled speculation about who Harris might select as her running mate. Other potential candidates include Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

The Democratic National Committee is set to host a virtual vote on the presidential nomination in early August, in line with an Ohio ballot-access deadline on August 7. As the political landscape continues to shift, the question remains: will Beshear step into the vice-presidential race, or will he continue to serve the people of Kentucky from his current position?
