The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, has seen a significant rise in his popularity, as indicated by a recent poll.
Despite this surge, however, the ex-president still only appeals to 40% of Americans, even though this figure represents a four-year high.
According to Mediaite, an ABC News/Ipsos poll published on Sunday revealed that 40% of Americans now have a favorable impression of Donald Trump. This figure marks a 9-point increase from the previous survey conducted on June 2, which was immediately after Trump's criminal trial conviction in New York. Nevertheless, the poll also indicated that 51% of respondents still hold an unfavorable impression of the former president.
Trump's popularity, though still not in the majority, has seen a considerable shift from the consistently low ratings he received in recent years. At no point in the last year did Trump's favorability exceed 31%, and in April of the previous year, it had plummeted to a mere 25%.
Interestingly, Trump now holds a distinct favorability advantage over the current President, Joe Biden. The poll shows that only 32% of Americans have a favorable impression of Biden, with a significant 55% holding an unfavorable view.
However, Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), appears to have a challenging task ahead in terms of public perception. A scant 25% of Americans hold a favorable view of the vice-presidential nominee, although a substantial 43% currently do not have an opinion. This suggests that Vance may have an opportunity to sway public opinion in his favor, given the large percentage of undecided respondents.
