In a show of resilience and defiance, former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance rallied their supporters in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday.
This marked their first public appearance since the shocking assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. The event also served as their inaugural campaign rally following the Republican National Convention, where the duo was officially nominated as the Republican Party's presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
"I find it hard to believe that a week ago an assassin tried to take Donald Trump's life and now we have a hell of a crowd in Michigan to welcome him back on the campaign trail," Vance declared, as reported by The Post Millennial.
Trump, known for his unfiltered remarks, didn't hold back in criticizing Michigan's Governor Gretchen Whitmer. He branded her a "terrible governor" who has performed a "terrible job." He even quipped about his desire to "run against her," acknowledging the rumors of Whitmer being a potential replacement for Joe Biden as the Democratic party's nominee.
The state of Michigan, a crucial swing state that swung in Trump's favor in 2016 but veered towards Biden in 2020, has become a focal point for both presidential candidates. As per a recent Emerson poll, Trump currently enjoys a slight lead over Biden, leading by a margin of three points.
The rally comes at a time when Biden is recuperating from COVID-19, which necessitated a temporary pause in his campaign activities. While the Biden campaign has assured that he will resume campaigning once medically cleared, some Democrat officials have expressed apprehension about his ability to campaign effectively. They suggest that Biden should contemplate stepping aside, allowing the Democratic Party to nominate a replacement.
