Mike Pompeo, the former U.S. Secretary of State, has been appointed as an advisor by Japan's largest steel manufacturer, Nippon Steel Corp.
The company has expressed its enthusiasm about the new partnership, stating, We look forward to working alongside Pompeo to further emphasize the ways in which Nippon Steels acquisition of U.S. Steel bolsters the countrys economic and national security.
According to Gateway Pundit, this move comes as Nippon Steel is in the process of merging with U.S. Steel, a deal worth $14.9 billion. While the merger has received regulatory approval outside the United States, it is currently encountering regulatory obstacles within the U.S., which is the primary reason for Pompeo's appointment.
Nippon Steel, the world's fourth-largest steel manufacturer, has not assigned a specific job title to Pompeo within the company. However, they have emphasized his reputation among both Democrats and Republicans. The company stated, "Pompeo, who served as secretary of state during Donald Trumps presidency, was a well-respected figure among both Democrats and Republicans."
However, Pompeo's reputation has been under scrutiny in recent years, particularly among conservatives. This follows reports that Pompeo, during his tenure as the director of the CIA, allegedly advocated for the assassination of WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange.
In a conversation with Joe Rogan earlier this year, Tucker Carlson, a prominent conservative commentator, discussed these allegations. He stated, Mike Pompeo was the secretary of state, but before then, he was the director of the CIA. And in that position, he plotted the murder of Julian Assange. So he is a criminal as far as Im concerned.
Despite these controversies, Nippon Steel remains optimistic about the benefits Pompeo can bring to their company, particularly in navigating the regulatory challenges of their proposed merger with U.S. Steel. The company believes that Pompeo's experience and influence can help emphasize the ways in which the acquisition can strengthen both the economic and national security of the United States.
