Barbara Streisand, the renowned singer and actress, has once again found herself in the midst of controversy.
This time, it's her interpretation of the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump that has sparked criticism. Streisand's comments, which some have deemed as misguided, have stirred up a storm of reactions.
According to RedState, the incident in question occurred on a Saturday afternoon during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump, the Republican 2024 presidential nominee, was delivering a speech. The rally was abruptly interrupted by gunfire, causing Trump to clutch his right ear as security agents rushed to his defense. The assailant, a 20-year-old named Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was swiftly neutralized by the Secret Service.
The incident, which resulted in the death of a rally attendee and left two others critically injured, has raised eyebrows and questions about how a young man managed to position himself on a nearby rooftop with a .22-fitted AR-style rifle and target a prominent presidential candidate.
Streisand, in her response to the incident, suggested that Trump's reputation as a "bully" might have been the catalyst for Crooks' assassination attempt. "Thomas Matthew Crooks was a registered Republican but as it has been reported he was bullied a lot in school. Trump has always been branded to be a bully. Maybe thats what motivated him," she stated.
Streisand's comments have not been well-received, with many criticizing her for her lack of sensitivity and understanding. While she continues to express her controversial views, Trump has been praised for his resilience, with some liberal celebrities, including Mark Zuckerberg, commending his recovery from the assassination attempt as "bada**."
The responses to Streisand's comments have been a mix of criticism and disbelief, with many arguing that such an incident should be viewed beyond political biases. Despite the backlash, Streisand, a figure whose career relies on the goodwill of her audience, seems undeterred.
Streisand's history of controversial remarks is not new. In 2023, during an interview with Stephen Colbert, she threatened to leave the country if Trump were re-elected. "I can't live in this country if he becomes President," she declared, adding that she would likely move to England.
