In a recent address at the European Political Community summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a stern warning to European leaders, cautioning them against succumbing to the manipulative tactics of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy's remarks, delivered at the Blenheim Palace in England, were seen as a veiled criticism of Hungarian President Viktor Orban and his controversial peace negotiations.

"Putin may try to approach you or go to some of your partners individually, trying to tempt or pressure you, to blackmail you so that one of you betrays the rest, weakening our unity," Zelenskyy cautioned his fellow leaders. He emphasized the importance of unity and strength in the face of potential Russian aggression, highlighting the need for individual leaders to consider their actions and the legacy they wish to leave.

According to CNBC, Zelenskyy's comments were particularly pointed towards Orban, who recently held a meeting with Putin in Moscow. This meeting was viewed by many as a betrayal of European interests and a potential threat to the unity of the continent. Zelenskyy questioned the legitimacy of leaders who act against the common interests of the continent, stating, "If someone in Europe tries to resolve issues behind others' backs or even at the expense of someone else... then why should we consider such a person?"

Zelenskyy's address was delivered to the EU's 27 member states and 20 other regional heads of state. The summit was established in 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Orban, a known ally of Putin, has drawn criticism from Europe for his recent visit to Moscow, which came shortly after his trip to Kyiv. Despite being a member of both the EU and NATO, Orban's actions have raised concerns about his commitment to European unity and security.

Orban, however, defended his actions, stating that his mission was to convince leaders to "shift from the pro-war policy to a pro-peace policy." He also claimed that his sentiments were shared by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Recalling a recent meeting with Trump, Orban stated that the former U.S. president had expressed his commitment to peace and suggested a different financial arrangement between the U.S. and Europe if he were to regain power.

Zelenskyy, however, remained firm in his stance, asserting that Putin could not maintain relationships with truly strong leaders and that unity was the key to maintaining the advantage over Russia. "Putin cannot sustain relationships with truly strong leaders. This is our advantage but it remains our advantage only as long as we are united," he said.

As the European Political Community Summit continues, the actions and decisions of its leaders will undoubtedly have significant implications for the future of European unity and security. Amidst these complex geopolitical dynamics, the words of President Zelenskyy serve as a stark reminder of the importance of unity and strength in the face of potential threats.
