In a shocking revelation, FBI investigators have disclosed that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump, had meticulously researched the movements of not only Trump but also President Biden and an unnamed member of the British royal family.
This information was shared with lawmakers on Wednesday, as reported by The New York Post.
According to the New York Post, the 20-year-old's search history also revealed his quest for information on the Democratic National Convention, as well as his own struggle with "major depressive disorder." The FBI's probe into Crooks' digital footprint has unveiled a fascination with high-profile individuals and celebrities, irrespective of their political leanings. This has added a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation, as officials grapple to pinpoint a motive behind the assassination attempt.
In addition to Trump and Biden, Crooks had also sought information on FBI Director Christopher Wray, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and an unidentified member of the British royal family. The young man's search history also pointed towards his battle with mental health, as evidenced by his search for "major depressive disorder."
Crooks, who was fatally shot moments after his attempt on the former president's life, had also penned a disturbing online message hinting at ominous plans for the rally in Butler, Pa. Investigators are currently combing through the shooter's digital devices, hoping to uncover a motive behind the assassination attempt.
Despite Crooks being a registered Republican, the investigation has yet to reveal any strong partisan political views. Officials have also found no evidence of co-conspirators or ties to foreign entities.
The details of Crooks' search history emerged amidst reports that a 20-minute gap occurred between the moment Secret Service snipers first spotted Crooks on a rooftop with a rifle and the time he opened fire. The ensuing gunfire grazed Trump's ear, claimed the life of a 50-year-old father of two, and injured two other attendees at the rally. The investigation continues, with the hope of shedding light on the motives behind this shocking incident.
